Spiritual Directors and Counselors Gathering

(with Dr. Sharon Siler, Healing Care Ministries)

Tuesday, October 8, 2024 // 12p-2p (3pm-5pm EST)

Location: Online

Cost: Free – donations accepted

As a spiritual director or counselor, you have likely cared for individuals whose stories include traumatic events and wounding experiences that impact their thinking, behaviors, and attitudes towards self, others, and God. In these instances, the ability to integrate a trauma-focused model may make all the difference in the care you provide. This workshop presented by Dr. Sharon Siler, the Year 2 Coordinator of Healing Care Ministries’ Spiritual Formation – Spiritual Direction Program and a certified Thanatologist will discuss how Formational Care, an inner-healing model developed by Dr. Terry Wardle can be integrated into spiritual direction and counseling to care for persons challenged by unresolved trauma.

48 Hour Retreat November 13-15, 2024

We live in a noisy, busy world. It can be exhausting and discouraging. Jesus invites us to something different that can shape the way we are interacting with the noise. In Mark 6:31-32, we read: “Because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, Jesus said to his disciples, ‘Come away with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.’ So they went away by themselves in a boat to a solitary place.” Take some time away to follow Jesus in this invitation to rest.Come for 24 hours or make it a 48 hour retreat. Gentle facilitation at the beginning and end with options for how you might spend this time with the Lord.

Soul Care Day - Rest and Release

Tuesday, January 7, 2025 // 9a-3:30p

Location: Franciscan Renewal Center – 5802 E Lincoln Dr, Scottsdale, AZ 85253

Catherine of Siena reminds us that our union with Christ offers a double blessing. Someday, we will see our friend and Savior face to face in Paradise, but we also get to enjoy his presence along the way in the wilderness. As Hebrews promises, we look forward to a final rest, but we can also rest where the Triune God has taken up residence in our hearts. In this soul care day, we meditate on the three signs of burnout and the remedy of spiritual rest.

We will have gathered times of prayer, time for personal reflection and prayer (you’ll be given materials), sharing in a small group, and an opportunity to meet with a spiritual director, if desired. Lunch and materials are included.

Cost:

Regular Registration: $49

SFSAZ General Member Registration: $44

SFSAZ Full and Professional Member Registration: $40

Pilgrimage: seeing the sacred as we walk with Jesus

Since ancient times individuals have followed their hearts on the spiritual practice of pilgrimage. They have traveled together and alone on sacred journeys near and far from their homes, for long periods of time or just a day. Some might even refer to their life as a journey of pilgrimage. Whatever the definition, we believe that there is something sacred to be discovered and transformation to embody on whatever journey you are traveling.

As we consider our life in Christ as pilgrimage, Matt and Julie will be sharing around themes that give us context and encouragement for this life. Matt will look at resting in our identity as well as living out of our baptism into Christ. Julie will look at pilgrimage in the early church, people and places.

Join us for a time of encountering the sacred as we walk with Jesus.

Matt and Julie Canlis will be our plenary speakers with breakout sessions by SFSAZ staff and friends.
